Chester Jennings, known professionally as Lyfe, distinguished himself as a guitar-strumming R&B Soul singer with a uniquely textured voice. At age 19, the Toledo, Ohio native was sent to jail for arson, where he served ten years for his crime. After he was released in 2003, he won “Amateur Night” at the Apollo five times in a row. His debut album, Lyfe 268-192, followed in 2004 and he was hailed as a fresh voice in R&B Soul. In 2010, Jennings was sentenced to three-and-a-half years in prison after firing gunshots into a home of his ex-girlfriend.
