Smokey Robinson

As the frontman of the Miracles in the 1960s, Smokey Robinson and his silky tenor played a large role in the early success of Motown Records.  The Miracles (later Smokey Robinson & the Miracles) entered the Top 40 charts 25 times in the '60s.  As a songwriter, Robinson logged hits for other Motown acts such as Mary Wells ("My Guy") and the Temptations ("My Girl").  In the '70s Robinson set out on a solo path and had hits with "Being with You" and "Cruisin'," which was covered by Neo-soul singer D'Angelo in the '90s.
