"Creep with me, as I crawl through the hood" were the words that introduced Snoop Doggy Dogg to the rap game on the Dr. Dre soundtrack cut "Deep Cover." The rail-thin rapper's laid-back but hard-hitting verses on Dre's 1992 classic The Chronic—and hits like “Gin & Juice” from his multiplatinum debut album Doggystyle—helped bring gangsta rap to mainstream popularity and turned him into a pop-culture icon. Born Calvin Cordozar Broadus, Jr. in Long Beach, California, Snoop grew up around gangs and he brought that real-life experience to his music. He proved his staying power with Neptunes-produced smashes like "Drop It Like It's Hot" and "Beautiful" featuring Charlie Wilson. Snoop has collaborated with everybody from Master P to Katy Perry. He’s appeared in numerous TV shows and films, including Training Day with Denzel Washington and produced his own MTV comedy series, Doggy Fizzle Televizzle. A serial entrepreneur, he's lent his name to numerous business ventures from candy to clothing to pet supplies. A certified football coach, Snoop also coaches his son's youth team. In 2012 he shocked the music world by changing his name to Snoop Lion and saying he would be releasing a reggae album.
