Living With HIV in the Age of Modern Treatment

In the early days, when HIV and AIDS were first diagnosed, the treatments for the disease were in their infancy. The treatments were complicated affairs that needed to be administered in hospitals, and included ingesting a potent cocktail of medications, sometimes consisting of as many as 30 or more a day. And typically, these treatments were accompanied by a host of debilitating side effects. Luckily, the science around HIV treatment and prevention has come a long way since then!

Today, the treatments available for those living with HIV are much less complicated and take far less of a toll on the body. With just one pill a day, many people living with HIV can not only live longer, happier lives without the pervasive fear of dying, but they can also progress to where they no longer have to worry about passing the virus on to others. In this video, people living with HIV discuss their treatments and how far the science has come.
