Samuel L. Jackson, Angela Bassett Prep 'The Mountaintop' on Broadway

The icons begin a new play on MLK.

Samuel L. Jackson and Angela Bassett are gearing up to channel Black History Month -- in the fall.

The pair of seasoned actors will take the stage in the Broadway production of "The Mountaintop," a new play by Katori Hall and directed by Tony Award-nominee Kenny Leon who helmed "Fences" and "A Raisin in the Sun." Jackson will play Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Bassett will play a character named Camae, reports Shadow And Act.

"The Mountaintop" will begin showing on September 22 at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre but the official opening night will be Thursday, October 13.

The pair released a promo photo recently along with a video clip where they discuss the play and their respective histories with the Broadway stage. Jackson admitted that he hadn't been on stage in 15 years, while Bassett was last on Broadway seven years ago.

"There is no sweetening, no restarts," Bassett said during the video. "I'ma have a good time."
