Chris Brown Ordered to Continue Probation

Chris Brown receives positive review, but must remain on supervised probation.

Chris Brown will remain under probation after a judge decided yesterday (February 9) that the 22-year-old singer is on the right track, but must still wait to earn his freedom, the Associated Press reports.

Brown's lawyer, Mark Geragos, had argued for an end to his client's probation period based on good behavior, but Los Angeles Superior Court Judge George Lomeli rejected the argument, saying that Brown still has more time to go. The young pop star was sentenced to five years of probation and six months of community service in 2009, when he pleaded guilty to one count of felony assault against ex-girlfriend Rihanna.

Brown has since completed three months of the community service, which includes graffiti removal, roadside cleanup and other manual labor, as well as taken anger management and domestic violence classes.

Under the ruling, the singer will continue to be required to report monthly to his probation officer in his native Virginia. On Sunday Brown will attend the Grammy awards for the first time since the incident in 2009. His ex, Rihanna, is also scheduled to perform.
