2023 NAACP Image Awards: See Which Supporting Actress Nominee Brought The Extra Wow Factor in These Top Motion Picture Films

The ladies of 'Black Panther: Wakanda Forever' dominated this category earning three nominations.

Although the ladies of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever dominated the "Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture" category at the 2023  NAACP Image Awards, several equally talented ladies were able to earn a spot in the prestigious category, including Janelle  Monáe for her performance in Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery and Lashana Lynch for The Woman King.

However, the winner won’t be revealed until the two-hour LIVE TV special, airing Saturday, February 25th, 2023, at 8:00 PM ET on BET. So, ahead of the biggest celebration of Black Hollywood, check out which supporting actress nominees brought the wow factor in these top motion picture films.

  • Angela Bassett / Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

    Golden Globe-winning actress Angela Bassett reprised her role as Ramonda, The Sovereign Queen Mother of Wakanda, whom fans find in the Black Panther sequel Wakanda Forever, grieving the death of her son T'Challa, previously portrayed by the late Chadwick Boseman. She is also the mom to Shuri, played by actress Letitia Wright.

  • Danai Gurira / Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

    Actress Danai Gurira earns another nomination for the Black Panther franchise thanks to her return as Okoye, the general of the all-female Dora Milaje army before taking the lead of the Midnight Angels.

  • Janelle Monáe / Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery

    Award-winning singer and actress Janelle Monáe dazzled on screen as a pair of twins, Helen and Andi Brand, in Netflix’s Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery. When tech billionaire Miles Bron, portrayed by Edward Norton,  invites his friends for a getaway on his private Greek island, a murder mystery of “who done it” ensues when someone turns up dead. Detective Benoit Blanc, played by actor Daniel Craig, is put on the case.

  • Lashana Lynch / The Woman King

    If you don’t know who Lashana Lynch is, we suggest you catch up with the rising actress and her many appearances in some of the most stand-out projects of 2022.

    The British actress stars as Izogie, veteran Agojie, in  Gina Prince-Bythewood’s The Woman King, an epic historical action drama film about the all-female warrior unit that protected the West African kingdom of Dahomey during the 17th to 19th centuries.

  • Lupita Nyong'o' / Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

    Academy Award-winning actress Lupita Nyong’ earned Black Panther: Wakanda Forever its third nomination in the category for her role as  Nakia. The film finds the former war dog dealing with the aftermath of T’Challa’s death.
