Before the trial commenced, Santa Monica authorities requested the presence of the FBI for the duration of the trial. The “worldwide coverage” of the case was deemed a perfect target for an attack.

Despite the presence of a “New Black Panther Party” member at MJ’s first court hearing, after thorough investigation, the FBI concluded that based on the information they received, a credible threat was nowhere in sight.
