Bill Cosby Applauds Eddie Murphy for Refusing to Play Him in SNL Sketch

The comedian wouldn't impersonate the TV dad during the show's Sunday special.

Bill Cosby is singing Eddie Murphy's praises after the actor/comedian turned down an opportunity to impersonate him in a Saturday Night Live special sketch.

According to NBC News, the Coming to America star refused to do an impression of Cosby during a Jeopardy!-themed parody in the first hour of SNL's Sunday Special, SNL 40. Grateful for Murphy's decision, Cosby said through his spokesperson, "I am very appreciative of Eddie and I applaud his actions."

SNL cast member Norm MacDonald explained in a series of tweets how the Norbit actor, who made a brief cameo on the special, took the high road. "He knew the laughs would bring the house down. Eddie Murphy knows what will work on SNL better than any one," he tweeted. "Eddie decides the laughs are not worth it. He will not kick a man when he is down... Eddie does not need the laughs."

Cosby has been the topic of headlines for months after being accused of sexually assaulting more than 20 woman. He has since denied all of the allegations and has not been charged.
