Offset Honored With 2023 Georgia Legislative Black Caucus Award
Offset is known at-large for his talents as a rapper, but his continuous effort to give back to Atlanta, GA communities is gaining notable recognition.
On Friday (Feb. 24), the 2023 annual Heritage Dinner for the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus (GLBC) was held at the Georgia International Convention Center, where Offset was honored with the 2023 GLBC award.
Offset, 31, received the award on behalf of the Atlanta-Fulton Foundation Board of Directors, who recognize “the many contributions you make not only music but most importantly our community,” the foundation wrote on an Instagram post dedicated to the honoree. “Continue to give of yourself for the betterment of the community.”
The heritage dinner was created in fellowship of Georgia’s business leaders and community-forward individuals to attend in celebration of Black History Month and Black legacy.
One of the honorable deeds the rapper does for his community is his annual toy giveaway in Gwinnett County, GA. During the most recent event, held on Dec. 23, 2022, Offset received the key to the county by county officials.
Offset made sure to thank everyone for their support, letting everyone know the importance of giving back to the kids, despite the recent hardship that he faced. One-third of the rap group Migos, Takeoff, was fatally shot on Nov. 1, 2022 in Houston, TX. Takeoff and Offset were cousins once removed, and took over the rap game with their infectious cadences in their music.
"I just wanted to give back to my community. Thanks to all the kids for always supporting me and always listening to me and always just being there for me, you know," Offset told the crowd. "Y’all hold me up. You know we’ve been going through a tough time, but God is good."
