Is Paula Patton Out of the Sparkle Remake?

Hmm, there’s a casting call for a “light-skinned actress.”

A month after it was reported that Paula Patton was offered a role in the remake of the classic film Sparkle, there is now doubt being cast as word of a casting call for a certain type of actress has been revealed.

Initially, Shadow and Act broke the news that Patton said she was being given the chance to join the film’s line up. Although Patton wouldn’t confirm which role she was being offered, many assumed it was the role of Sister (played by Lonette McKee in the original). But recently, the producers of the film wrote that they were interested in auditioning actresses for that specific role:

“… light-skinned African-American with naturally wavy hair, beautiful, sexy and sassy, with a body like a brick house and a powerful, seductive stage presence; It’d be great if the actress can sing, but it’s not a requirement.”

Does this mean Paul Patton’s out? Of course not. But the obvious character she could play and the producers’ description for what they’re looking for would make one think the Precious actress was no longer on the project.

Sparkle is currently in development by The Game creator Mara Brock Akil and her husband, director Salim Akil. The movie was inspired by the legendary group The Supremes and chronicles the hard-knock lives of singer Sparkle Williams and her two sisters.
