Three cases from tonight’s episode of Ms. Pat Settles It! highlight more lessons about why doing business with friends and family should be airtight. Ms. Pat, joined by her jurors, Don DC Curry, DeRay Davis, Mona Love, Carmen Barton, Garrianna, Ha Ha Davis, and Jordan Cooper, rules in matters of the heart gone wrong, and good intentions turn into being taken advantage of. Here are the top three lessons learned today.
Annie Jackson vs Tristan Wiggins
Annie is suing her friend “T Red” for the $3,000 she gave him to make a music video because she wanted to help him launch his rap career. However, the single never dropped, and T Red abandoned rapping for good. Annie said that Tristan agreed to pay him back, and she had proof through text messages and a contract. T Red signed the contract but then changed his heart and texted her, saying he didn’t think he should have had to pay all the money back. It also appeared that Annie had two cars parked at Tristan’s house because she had eight cars and needed to free up some space in her driveway. She parked said cars for seven months and never paid Tristan a thing. That’s a fact that Ms Pat noted when she ruled in favor of Annie for $1,000 because of the parked cars. The thing is, Annie said he didn’t ask for money, though, which is fair, and thinks the ruling is BS. She’s not wrong.
The Lesson: Don’t agree to a loan you won’t want to repay in the long run. Also, don’t loan someone money without proof of concept and a launch plan.
Beau Harden vs Domenique Harden
This one is straight out of a Tyler Perry drama. Beau is suing his estranged wife for
the $5,000 he loaned her to buy a car. The purpose of the car was to drive their kids around, but instead, she used the money for other things and suddenly, her new boyfriend got a car. Domenique says she intended to buy a car with the money but that the money was a gift, so she should have been able to do whatever she wanted. Plus, when she returned to get the car she wanted, it was already sold, so she decided to use the money on herself, went on a cruise, and bought things for herself. Beau had text messages as proof of Domenique asking and promising to repay the money. Ultimately, they were separated at the time of this transaction, but Beau still hoped he could get his family back. Domenique said they tried everything, and it’s just not working, so they are headed for divorce. Ultimately, Domenique tried it because she did offer to pay the money back and she was trifling for not asking her boyfriend for the money instead. So, Pat rules in favor of Beau.
The Lesson: If you’re still friends with an ex or soon-to-be ex, don’t let them take advantage of you because you might still have feelings for them.
Sylvia Webb vs Kayla Walton
Sylvia Webb is suing her daughter, Kayla, for $3,000 for claiming a child tax credit behind her back. Here’s the deal: Sylvia watches Kayla’s three kids most of the time and had been claiming them on her taxes, but Kayla got a new job and decided to claim them without Sylvia’s knowledge. That caused Sylvia to get audited. Ultimately, Slyiva said she had the kids most of the day and that while they did go to bed in their mom’s house, she would also take them to school in the morning. That’s a lot, and it gets worse when we learn that Kayla got $10,000 in taxes total. Her rationale was that she had bills to pay. It was her first time claiming taxes and she wanted to do her own thing. Plus, her mom already had a nice job. Mmmkay. You already know Ms Pat ruled in favor of Slyvia because Kayla should have told her mom. Also, Slyvia should stop enabling her daughter.
