Akinnuoye-Agbaje was born in Islington, London, the son of Nigerian immigrants of Yoruba origin. He is best known for his roles in the HBO prison series Oz and as Mr. Eko on ABC's survivor drama Lost. Akinnuoye-Agbaje has also stated that he will be directing a movie about his life story.

The Thing is a science-fiction horror film that follows a team of Norwegian and American scientists who discover an alien buried deep in the ice of Antarctica, realizing too late that it's still alive and is consuming and imitating the team members. Akinnuoye-Agbaje portrays Derek Jameson in the horror flick.The Thing hits theaters this Friday, October 14.
