ISIS Claims Westminster Terrorist Attack While Police Identify Suspect as London-Born Khalid Masoon

The deadly attack has left three dead, including one American.

After Wednesday’s terror attack in front of British Parliament in London, new details have emerged about the attacker. Police have named London-born Khalid Masood, 52, as the person behind the deadly incident which left three dead and injured 29.

According to British intelligence, Masood was once on the radar of MI5, an intelligence agency based in London. However, in recent years, Masood has fallen on their list of 30 individuals most likely to carry out an attack, reported The Guardian.

ISIS has already claimed responsibility for the attack, yet no official ties to the Islamic State have been identified. It appears the incident was a lone wolf attack that probably came as the result of online propaganda and radicalization by the Islamic State.

During the attack, Masood was reported to have driven a car along the walkway of the Westminster Bridge, leaving several dozen people injured. He then ran towards the Parliament building, where he stabbed PC Keith Palmer, a Metropolitan Police Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection cop who tried to stop him from entering the building, according to BBC.

In addition to Palmer, a London college worker, Aysha Frade, and an American tourist, Kurt Cochran, were also killed. The attacker was gunned down by police on the Parliament grounds.

British Prime Minister Theresa May said 12 British citizens were admitted to the hospital. She added that other victims included three French children, two Romanians, four South Koreans, one German, one Pole, one Irish, one Chinese, one Italian, one American and two Greeks.

Following the attack, eight arrests were made during raids in London.
