The Kansas City Royals drafted Bo Jackson on June 7, 1986, in the fourth round of the Major League Baseball amateur draft.

Jackson chose to begin a career in baseball despite being a 1985 Heisman trophy winner and Auburn University football star.

However, this wasn't the first time Jackson was drafted by a well-known baseball team. Prior to attending Auburn University, Jackson was drafted by the New York Yankees as a second-round pick, but denied the offer to pursue an education.

After a few years playing for the Royals, Jackson chose to head back into football and was the seventh-round draft pick of the Oakland Raiders until he hurt his hip in a game. Eventually, he returned to baseball in 1993 for the White Sox.
