DA Says Murder Suspect Influenced by Gangs

A 24-year-old Alabama man, accused of murdering two men at a restaurant, says he was fascinated by gangs.

Nearly three years ago, Jamal Woods allegedly opened fire at T.G.I. Friday’s, killing two and wounding two others. Prosecutors say that he went off and started shooting, because he believed that a man who waved at his wife had dissed him.

Woods’ aunt, Lawanda Jackson of Los Angeles, a member of the Crips street gang, told the court that Woods was exposed to the gang culture as a youngster. His uncle, Charles Davis, was cut down by enemy bullets. Woods’ mother fled from Los Angeles to Mobile with him when he was 8 years old.
