BET is committed to leveraging the influence and impact of its brand to deliver socially responsible initiatives and programming that benefit the local communities they engage. During BET Experience, BET Networks partners with local non-profit and community organizations in the LA County region to activate community outreach projects such as employee volunteer service opportunities, corporate donations, and educational initiatives.
The BET Experience Youth Program is a free three-day educational development program that serves 50 students from 40 high schools in LA interested in careers in the entertainment industry. The highly selective program gives students an opportunity to learn about different aspects of the music industry including music journalism, event production and the history of African American Music and its expansive contributions to American culture. The BET Youth Experience kicks off with a guided tour of the BET exhibit and first of the Genius Talk lecture series. In the past Genius Talk speakers have featured high profile celebrities and influencers such as Gabrielle Union, DJ Khaled, Snoop Dog, Jermaine Dupree, Kirk Franklin and more. During the remainder of the three-day program, students sit in on industry panels with celebrities, executives and BET employees and attend BET Experience events such as the Celebrity Basketball Game, Genius Talks and BET Awards ceremony. Through the program, students build confidence, connections, and a broad understanding of all aspects of the entertainment industry.
BET partners with LA’s local YMCAs and Boys and Girls Clubs for the, BET Youth Basketball Clinic, a community rallying activation for Crenshaw. BET Youth Basketball Clinic engages over 100 boys and girls from the local Crenshaw area in a one-hour basketball clinic. Last year, BET and AEG presented a check of $5,000 to the Crenshaw YMCA to support their facilities with much needed updates and increase youth programming initiatives.
During BET Experience, BET and AEG partner for a Community Volunteer Service Day in which employees volunteer their time to give back to the LA County Region through a local community outreach organization. Last year, BET and AEG employees collectively assembled over 2,000 tons of food for 23,000 seniors, families in need, and women with infants and children in the Los Angeles County area at the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank.
