Gabrielle Union has personified #BlackGirlMagic in a variety of ways for as long as we can remember. In addition to continuously being a beacon of hope and encouragement for Black women with the success of Being Mary Jane, the actress took a brave step by transparently speaking out about her past experience with sexual assault.
Sacrificing her own mental health to relive her harrowing story of being raped at gunpoint and how she moved forward, she served as an image of perseverance for women and men who shared similar experiences. It is because of this unapologetic candor that we proudly honor Gabrielle Union in our annual Black History Month celebration, “The Great 28.”
