5 Great Movie Trailers You Missed If You Boycotted The Super Bowl

There was more than the game.

Published February 4, 2018

If I'm being honest, I didn't watch a single game of football this season. Yes, #istandwithKap, and being a belleaguered Giants fan (3-13??) made it easy not to watch. Throw in the fact that the arch nemesis of NY Football (The Eagles and Patriots) were playing eachother in the Super Bowl and I had as much incenctive to break my streak as getting my wisdom teeth pulled with no anesthetic.

Nevertheless, my social media timeline started to get filled with trailers to movies that aired during the Super Bowl and a few definitely caught my attention. If you were like me and didn't watch the game, here are some trailers you may have missed.

  1. Black Panther

A little while back we premiered the :60 big brother for this spot, but for the possibly overstimulated and drunk on sports, this more nimble :30 second spot finds our hero and his sister putting the new Lexus through its paces and securing the Vibranium for the afterparty in Wakanda.

  2. Solo: A Start Wars Story

Young Han Solo is getting his own film, but you know why we're here--Donald Glover. Yes, the Emmy winner and Grammy-nominated singer will be playing a young Lando Calrissian and Twitter has already made gifs of his stoic, fur-wearing, pimptastic self peppered in lighting. The full trailer is dropping tomorrow.

  3. Jurassic World: The Fallen Kingdom

It's hard to believe that folks are still cloning these damn dinosaurs and refuse to learn their lesson, but we'd miss out on so many good sequels if we applied logic. Besides, we get to see our man Justice Smith from The Get Down in his first role since the Netflix series. And who can refuse a little popcorn and chaos in the summer?

  4. Skyscraper

Dwyane Johnson is bringing us another "Father & The Furious" film where he runs head first into danger to save his family. Think of this one as San Andreas meets Die Hard centered around one building, instead of the entire city. And it's on fire. And he's got a prosthetic leg. And an axe...To Grind. *evil laugh*

  5. The Cloverfield Paradox

Ten years after the original we finally get a sequel to Cloverfield that presumably picks up where the first one left off. The crazy part is that no one saw this coming and you don't have to wait very long to see it, because it is streaming on Netflix tonight right after the game that I'm not watching. And when Gugu Mbatha-Raw tells you to stop what you're doing, pay attention.
