Celebrating the community's contributions to fashion.

Published June 15, 2017

Welcome to BET.com's 12 Days of Pride series where, with the help of seasoned drag queen and RuPaul's Drag Race alum Shangela Laquifa Wadley, we break down 12 standout reasons why LGBT Pride is to be celebrated, especially within the Black community.

In the fifth installment of the series, we celebrate LGBT men and women of color who fill major roles in the world of fashion.

Shangela recognizes Balmain creative director Olivier Rousteing, former Vogue editor-at-large Andre Leon Talley and transgender model Isis King as three main pillars when it comes to LGBT representation in fashion.

Also making a splash on the fashion scene is transgender actress Laverne Cox, who is a highly sought after face for several upscale fashion designers.

With all of these figures calling the shots, it's hard to miss the indelible influence the LGBT community has had and continues to have on fashion.

Watch Shangela break it down in the video, above.
