What About Your Friends? 11 BFFs Who Called It Quits

Tamar and Toya, Jay-Z and Kanye and more.

Published September 20, 2017

In the celebrity world, some of our favorite famous faces are known just as much — if not more — for their close friendships as they are for their romantic relationships. However, as shown with a slew of BFF splits over time, it doesn't always work out.

From Jay-Z and Kanye West to Kandi and Phaedra, some friendships that may have seemed inseparable from the outside looking in dissipated right before our eyes. Take a look at 11 best friends who called it quits, below:

  1. Tamar Braxton and Tiny

Tamar Braxton and Tiny have been friends for years, and their families seemed to have formed a strong bond throughout that time. However, in 2017, the ladies butt heads on social media after the Xscape member's mother put Tamar on blast for being a deadbeat godmother. It all went downhill from there with the ladies trading insults on social media. They eventually seemed to make up.

  2. Tiny and Shekinah

Another duo that seemed practically inseparable — they even had a reality show together which chronicled their friendship — was Tiny and Shekinah. While their friendship seemed to be as strong as can be, the impossible happened just recently, as Tiny reportedly ended her friendship with the TV personality in September 2017. According to reports, they went their separate ways when Tiny refused to end her friendship with someone Shekinah had a falling out with.

Before Kim Kardashian became the reality TV phenomenon she is today, she was the sidekick to then Hollywood it-girl Paris Hilton. They two became best friends, actually, forming a girl squad at one point. Their friendship took a turn for the worse, however, once Kim was noticed and landed a reality TV deal in 2006. Paris, who had already built her own reality TV empire by then, believed that Kim used her for the come-up, and they've become estranged since.

  4. Kim Kardashian and Blac Chyna

Once becoming the Kim Kardashian, the reality star didn't have any problems making new friends. However, one, in particular, proved to be surprising: her former friendship with Blac Chyna. The reality star befriended the former exotic dancer while she was dating rapper Tyga — before he was linked to her sister Kylie. The two even took an infamous mirror selfie together, showing off their toned booties. Their friendship quickly ended, however, once Chyna's relationship with Tyga ended and he began dating Kylie.

  5. Jay-Z and Kanye West

Jay-Z and Kanye West have been the two biggest forces in hip hop for quite some time now, and at one point they were considered a dynamic duo, having even released a joint album together called Watch the Throne. However, their friendship went sour once 'Ye took to the stage during one of his shows to call out Jay and his wife, Beyoncé, for not coming to his house to see his kids back 2016. Jigga went on to address his rant in 2017, admitting that they're now no longer on the best terms since then, saying, "You can't bring my kid or my wife into it."

  6. NeNe Leakes and Cynthia Bailey

It's pretty much a rarity that members of the Real Housewives franchise end up becoming actual best friends during or before the filming process, but this was the case for NeNe Leakes and Cynthia Bailey. However, the ladies who once would do everything together quickly became enemies once Leakes called the former supermodel's husband, Peter Thomas, a "b***h" in 2014, during filming. Since then, their friendship only kept deteriorating, with Cynthia saying that friends don't call friends b*****s. The ladies have gone back and forth with the jabs over the years, but have since apologized to one another. Their close friendship, however, is still in repair mode.

  7. Selena Gomez and Kendall & Kylie Jenner

Selena Gomez was once closely linked to the Jenner sisters, Kendall and Kylie. However, she cut them off in 2014, after reportedly finding them to be "toxic distractions." While a source used those words to describe the axing of them from her life, the news was confirmed when the singer unfollowed them both on Instagram. They have not been seen together since.

  8. Miley Cyrus and Demi Lovato

Miley Cyrus and Demi Lovato had the same come-up story as Disney Channel darlings, and with that start, they grew to become the best of friends. However, like most childhood friendships, they outgrew each other, as the "Sorry Not Sorry" singer said in a 2014 interview. "It's life, and people change," she said, calling the "Malibu" singer an acquaintance. "I don't have anything in common with her anymore. I wish her the best."

  9. Tamar Braxton and Toya Wright

Tiny wasn't the only girlfriend who Tamar lost in 2017. The singer also had a nasty split with another of her besties, Toya Wright, and it all went down on social media. In fact, all three ladies are involved in this one. Back in June 2017, Tamar took to Instagram where she posted an emotional plea to rebuild her friendship with Tiny, but, in the process, she slammed Lil Wayne's ex, calling her "paperback Toya" and claiming she drove a wedge between them, putting them in the place they were in at the time. Not taking the shade lying down, Toya returned the favor calling her "THE fakest b***h" she knows. It's safe to say that this friendship is done for.

  10. Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O'Neal

Arguably two of the most talented and revered athletes in the world, Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O'Neal had one of the most enviable friendships in sports. In addition to being best buds on the court during their time together playing for the LA Lakers, the superstar ballers were also BFFs off the court. However, as the years went by they seemed to drift apart, with no one knowing exactly why. Kobe eventually did an interview saying Shaq was "fat, out of shape, and over-dramatizing injuries to avoid blame for the lack of conditioning." Doesn't sound like a friendly thing to say.

  11. Kandi Burruss and Phaedra Parks

Perhaps the most publicly noted friendship dissolution of the Housewives franchise involves Kandi Burruss and Phaedra Parks. The two became quick best friends while filming the Atlanta spin-off of the popular Bravo series, but the mutual love came to a halt during season eight when Phaedra claimed Kandi did not support her when her then-husband, Apollo Nida, went away to prison. She claims she was hurt to learn that Kandi was holding on to his things at her place without her knowledge. As the next season rolled on, things only intensified, with Pheadra eventually admitting to starting a rumor that Kandi tried to sexually assault fellow cast-member Porsha Williams in her "sex dungeon." Phaedra has since been axed from the show, and the two are no longer besties.
