If you thought Get Out was done winning in 2017, you were wrong. Jordan Peele's woke horror film just picked up some major nominations at the start of awards season. Could the movie actually get some Oscar love?
The Gotham Awards, which celebrates independent films, honored Get Out with four nominations — the most of any film this year. The flick received noms for best feature, breakthrough director (Peele), best screenplay and best actor (Daniel Kaluuya). The Gotham Awards are definitely a precursor to the Oscars and could certainly mean the film will get some Academy Awards love.
The Gotham Awards also honored Mudbound, which stars Mary J. Blige, with two: MJB for breakthrough actor and a special Gotham Jury Award for ensemble performance to Carey Mulligan, Garrett Hedlund, Jason Clarke, Jason Mitchell, Rob Morgan, Jonathan Banks and, of course, Mary.
Whose Streets?, a film about the Ferguson uprising, also received a nod for best documentary.
Sounds like it's going to be another great year for Black filmmakers and actors this awards season!
