Jane Fonda Stands Up For Black Women And Twitter Is Loving It
Jane Fonda was woke before the term existed. The two-time Academy Award winner opposed the Vietnam War, supported the Black Panthers and is a long-time voice in the feminist movement. On November 3, 1970, after returning from an anti-Vietnam war fundraiser in Canada, she was falsely arrested for drug smuggling. She had no drugs on her, only vitamins, but police told her the arrest was an order from the White House. Now, Jane Fonda just spoke some real truth and Twitter is loving it.
In an interview with MSNBC, Fonda, 79, talked about accused rapist and Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein and noticed an interesting bias in the reporting. “It feels like something has shifted,” she told reporter Chris Hayes. “It’s too bad that it’s probably because so many of the women that were assaulted by Harvey Weinstein are famous and white and everybody knows them. This has been going on a long time to Black women and other women of color and it doesn’t get out quite the same.”
Twitter exploded in joy. See the reactions below:Stay woke, Jane!
