Tiffany Haddish Describes Her Relationship With Her Mom, And It Will Break Your Heart

Just another reason to root for her.

Tiffany Haddish is arguably the biggest breakout star of the year: from her highly praised performance in Girls Trip to her recent historic hosting gig Saturday Night Live, some would say Haddish has officially made it.

While she's achieved so much in such a short span of time, Haddish still only has one personal goal in mind that she says would trump all of her accolades past, present and future — and it's sure to make you emotional.

See how the comic recently made history with BET Breaks, above.

The actress recently spoke with People about her new memoir The Last Black Unicorn, where she spoke candidly about her mother's traumatic and life-changing car accident that occurred in South Central Los Angeles. The actress was eight years old at the time and the accident was so brutal that it left her mother with severe brain damage, leading to schizophrenia.

"After the accident, oh my God, she would say the worst things to me, like, 'You look like your ugly a** daddy, I hate him. I hate you,' she wrote in the book. "She couldn't get all her words out, so she'd just punch me. Just full on. Because of her, I can take a punch like nobody's business. Teachers would ask, 'Why's Tiffany's lip busted?' I didn't say anything. As bad as she was to me, I still couldn't help but love her."

Five years after the crash, her mother was admitted into a mental facility and the actress and her four brothers and sisters were forced to enter the foster care system. Her comedy career was born through this as a defense mechanism. Despite her mother's hurtful words, as a result of her mental illness, Haddish maintains that she has only one goal in mind and that is to help her mother get better.

"My mom is still alive, in a mental institution," she wrote. "My goal is to get enough money to buy a duplex. I want to put her in one of the units and hire a full-time nurse to take care of her. Then I want to get her whatever medications she needs so she can be my mama again. Honestly, that's what I want in life."

Heartbreaking. She's well on her way to achieving her goal. Keep pushing on, Tiffany!
