Most are raving about Dave Chappelle’s latest Netflix specials, but not everyone was satisfied with all of his jokes.
In particular, many didn’t find his bit about actor Anthony Rapp, who he says wasn’t really harmed by Kevin Spacey’s alleged sexual assault toward him because he “grew up to be gay anyway.”
"Kevin Spacey's out here grabbing men by the p***y! I didn't even know that was possible!" He says, then later seems to defend Spacey's actions.
"I've been to a lot of parties in my day. Never been to a good one that had 14-year-old boys in it," Chappelle jokes. "Kevin Spacey sniffed that s**t out like a truffle pig."
"And not to victim-blame," he concluded. "But it seems like the kind of situation that a gay 14-year-old kid would get himself into."
That said, many comedians are defending Chappelle. TMZ recently spoke to Norm McDonald, Adam Devine and longtime Chappelle's Show co-star Donnell Rawlings. Both McDonald and Devine praised Dave while Rawlings said people shouldn’t hold their breath for an apology from the legendary joke master.
There were quite a few people on social media that were mad however. See their responses below.
Sorry but molestation and rape not a joke but a crime.— Eripiat ad infernum (@Mar974988) January 1, 2018
Oh, I must be mistaken. Victim shaming is funny these days? Chappelle can fuck right off.— Shane Avery (@ShaneAvery) January 1, 2018
He was a child. He was taken advantage of by an adult. He was ABUSED! Educate yourself, then go find your morals. #disgustedbyignorance ‘He grew up gay anyway': Dave Chappelle on Anthony Rapp allegations— Ellen Smith (@BoyCrazyMama) January 1, 2018
...and @hourlongdrama thinks Dave Chappelle is a piece of shit. His comments about Anthony Rapp are OUTRAGEOUS and in no way at all funny. I’ve never been a fan, but seriously, fuck this guy. https://t.co/kNbHVkCzeF— * (@hourlongdrama) December 31, 2017
