Wendy Williams Faces Epic Backlash Over Support Of R. Kelly

Her talk show may be in jeopardy.

R. Kelly is more widely known today for the molestation and sexual assault accusations made against him by several women than for his music. Due to this, several of his supporters and celebrity allies have chosen to stand in support of his accusers. Luckily for him, he happens to have a backer in talk show maven Wendy Williams.

However, her public and vocal support of him may reportedly cost her her eponymous talk show.

According to the Daily Mail, Williams may have burned a few bridges with a few of the morning talk show's sponsors, who were "shocked and dismayed" at her stance while discussing the singer's track record.

This all is in reference to Williams' "Hot Topics" take on R. Kelly's alleged prostitution ring he is said to be running in Atlanta. During the segment, the former radio personality decided to support him by suggesting that some of the women who accused him of defiling their bodies were either pimped out by their parents or looked older than they actually were at the time of the alleged abuse.

An insider has reportedly reached out to the Daily Mail to explain that the show's syndication company, Debmar-Mercury, was surprised and disappointed at the direction Williams took during the segment.

"Company executives allegedly begged her to tone down her support of R. Kelly after advertisers began threatening to jump ship," the report read. "It's already been a tough season for Wendy. The revelations of her husband's affair caused major drama at the show. Her illness cost the show to lose money during her three weeks off."

In the wake of the now widespread #MeToo movement, which Williams, herself, said she is "sick of," her support of R. Kelly reportedly serves as the last straw for some of her sponsors.

"Her supporting of R. Kelly despite his history of questionable sexual misconduct in this day of reckoning for women is misguided and dangerous to the business of her show," the report continued.

Some of Williams' viewers also echoed these sentiments and took to Twitter to voice their concerns:
