Yesterday (October 5), Chicago police officer Jason Van Dyke was found guilty of second-degree murder for the 2014 fatal shooting of 17-year-old Laquan McDonald.
Van Dyke was also convicted of 16 counts of aggravated battery for the 16 shots he fired. For many, it was finally justice for Laquan after so much protest, corruption, and more.
When news of the verdict hit the Internet, many celebrities reacted to verdict. They too have been keeping up with case’s developments.
Though the life of Laquan McDonald can’t be brought back, justice can be served and we can still do the work and fight the good fight in his spirit. pic.twitter.com/4oeuPixt56— COMMON (@common) October 5, 2018

Difficult to hear. "Each bullet is a crime...each caused blood loss...(Laquan McDonald) was alive each time (Ofc. Jason Van Dyke) shot him...each shot robbed him of a chance of survival."— T.J. Holmes (@tjholmes) October 4, 2018

When the jury foreman read out the guilty verdict per shot fired it sounded like a bit of justice. #LaQuanMcDonald— deray (@deray) October 5, 2018
Van Dyke's bond was revoked and his sentencing is scheduled for October 31. He was led out of the courtroom on Friday in handcuffs.
Originally, the officer was charged with first-degree murder, but jurors were instructed on Thursday that they could also consider a second-degree charge. Van Dyke was the first Chicago police officer to be charged with first-degree murder since 1980.
