Guess Who’s Black, Raven-Symoné Is Apparently Claiming To Be Black Again

The actress notoriously told Oprah back in 2014, "I’m not an African-American — I’m American.”

Is the Raven-Symoné we've grown to know and love through our TV screens back for good?

This appears to be the case as the actress and former child star recently did an interview clarifying and somewhat recanting her still highly controversial 2014 comments about her race.

Fans of the actress may recall the Raven's Home star's viral interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2014 here she claimed to resist labels while speaking on her relationship with a woman, at the time.

"I'm tired of being labeled," she said. "I'm an American. I'm not African-American — I'm American."

As expected, her comments quickly sparked a social media frenzy, with several of her Black fans expressing their outrage over her failing to claim her identity as a Black woman.

Now, some four years later, Raven is speaking with the folks at AM to DM by Buzzfeed News where she discussed a slew of topics, with one of them being her touchy comments. In her response, she firstly stated that she fully realizes she is Black.

"I didn't say I wasn't Black. I'm Black," she said. "My passport says 'American.' Trust me, I know I'm Black. There's just a difference. There are many African-Americans, especially in 2018, that come over from Africa... That's how I look at the title. There are a lot of Black Americans here who have been here longer than the Americans that are different color."

While her comments may still appear a bit skewed to some, they're still considered a step in the right direction, right?
