Taking to Instagram early Friday morning to express that he would be stepping down from hosting the 2019 Oscars after being asked by the Academy to once again apologize for old tweets that used homophobic language, Kevin Hart may already have a replacement.
According to the report, sources state the Academy host committee reached out “in hopes that he would agree to host,” but going off the same source, it seems as though Eddie is “less interested” after seeing the backlash Kevin experienced.
If you recall, back in 2012, Eddie opted-out of hosting of the 84th Academy Awards following the Academy’s issues with filmmaker Brett Ratner due to his use of a homophobic slur.
Murphy left the gig behind sharing in a statement: “First and foremost I want to say that I completely understand and support each party’s decision with regard to a change of producers for this year’s Academy Awards ceremony,” he also added, “I was truly looking forward to being a part of the show that our production team and writers were just starting to develop, but I’m sure that the new production team and host will do an equally great job.”
The Academy President Tom Sherak responded in a statement: “I appreciate how Eddie feels about losing his creative partner, Brett Ratner, and we all wish him well.”
Six years later, the Academy is banging at Eddie’s door.
Will Mr. Murphy agree? We'll have to wait and see.
