Will Smith fans and admirers of the iconic Disney movie Aladdin alike have been eagerly awaiting the first look of the forthcoming live-action release of the film, and, luckily, their prayers were recently answered.
Smith, who will portray the beloved Genie in the film, recently took to Instagram to reveal the first look of the main cast, comprising of himself, Mena Massoud (Aladdin), and Naomi Scott (Jasmine).
While fans seem to have no doubt that Smith can perfectly execute the role, several expressed some reservations about two elements that, ultimately, were out of his control: his costume and makeup.
Take a look at the first photo, below, initially courtesy of Entertainment Weekly:
The first detail from the picture that critics picked up on was Smith lacking the bright blue complexion hue that the original character, famously voiced by Robin Williams in 1992, had.
To their further disappointment, Smith's Genie does not, at all, appear to be altered by CGI technology.
In his defense, however, Smith reassured fans that he will be blue in the film, but appears "mortal-like" on the cover as he is in the character's human form.
Nevertheless, Twitter still seemed a bit underwhelmed at the first look of the three main stars of the highly anticipated film. See how they reacted, below:
Furthermore, Smith reassured his fans that his character will, indeed, be altered by CGI throughout the film.
Despite Smith's reassurance, director Guy Ritchie hinted that he would be taking Genie and the live-action movie in a different direction that its predecessor.
"The great thing about the role of the Genie is that it's essentially a hyperbole for who that individual actor is, so it's a wonderful platform and tapestry for an actor to fill his boots," he told the publication.
What do you make of his comments and are you here for this first look?
