Regina King Reveals Which Celebrity Was The First To Step Up After Her Epic Golden Globes Speech Vowing To Hire More Women

The actress is already remaining true to her promise.

Regina King's rousing Golden Globes speech saw the actress pose a challenge to both herself and her peers to give more women in Hollywood opportunities to tell their stories in film and television.

Now, mere days after she delivered those powerful words, the actress says that she's already been contacted by multiple people in the industry to join her pledge, with one of them being a major mover and shaker whom many love.

Speaking with Entertainment Tonight at the National Board of Review Gala, King said that Tyler Perry immediately reached out to her after seeing her speech.

"[Producer] Bert Salke has [reached out], Tyler Perry, immediately, and those are men," she said. "Those are just a couple of the men. I haven't even finished going through all my congratulations emails, so I'm sure there's a couple of others."

The decorated actress, producer and director also shared that, prior to giving the now virally inspiring speech, some tried to convince her to dial it back as they deemed it too bold. However, she firmly disagreed with their sentiment.

"[People have told me] that to take the risk of saying something like that and putting something on myself [like] that was too big," she said. "I don't feel like it is. I feel like it's possible, and the reality is all I had to do was say it."

In addition to her Golden Globe win for her performance in If Beale Street Could Talk, King has also received several other nominations and is also up for an Independent Spirit Award. She has also won several small critics association awards for her work in the film.
