Kevin Hart Claps Back At Backlash Over His ‘Support’ For Jussie Smollett Following Hate Crime Attack

The comedian is having to answer for his past, again.

On Tuesday (January 29), Kevin Hart expressed his outrage over the hate crime incident involving Jussie Smollett.

  1. It was particularly surprising given the actor/comedian’s past Twitter comments about LGBTQ folks and his uninterest in being an ally to the marginalized group.

“Sending prayers your way @jussiesmollett ....This is unbelievably sad,” He tweeted and also captioned under a pic of the EMPIRE actor on Instagram. “Why are we going backwards....this is disgusting. We as people have to do better. WTF is going on the world???? Why…”

That message of “prayers” though is falling on deaf ears (or eyes) as people, particularly in the LGBTQ community, are calling out his tweet as insincere. TV writer and podcaster Ira Madison’s response perhaps had the most bite.

  2. Ouch. The comment got so much traction that Hart responded. Kevin says he’s changed, but his comments since the whole Twitter fiasco happened, it again had Ira’s eyes rolling.

  3. As previously reported, Smollett was brutally attacked in the early of Tuesday morning while leaving a Subway restaurant in Chicago.

The Chicago Police Department is dubbing the incident a hate crime, as the Empire star, who openly identifies as gay, was approached by two men in ski masks who put a noose around his neck, began beating him and threw an unknown chemical substance rumored to be bleach onto his body. Further proving that the attack was racially motivated, they reportedly yelled, "This is MAGA country," during the attack.
