Nick Cannon Turned His Wendy Williams Guest Hosting Gig Into His Own Talk Show

Get ready for a new face of daytime.

Nick Cannon received rave reviews for his guest hosting duties at the Wendy Williams Show in February 2019, while Wendy Williams took a needed break to address her health and wellbeing. Now, it seems the temporary gig has paid off for Nick in a permanent way.

According to Deadline, Cannon has closed a deal with Lionsgate's Debmar-Mercury, the company behind Wendy Williams' long-running show, to host his very own daytime talk show.

"We are excited to be able to announce this collaboration with Nick, who has proven himself to be such a dominant creative and entrepreneurial force across film, primetime TV, music, comedy, stage and online platforms," reads a statement from Debmar-Mercury co-presidents Mort Marcus and Ira Bernstein. "The daytime audience got to see that firsthand earlier this year with his stellar performance guest hosting The Wendy Williams Show. Now we can't wait to see Nick put his own unique stamp on talk and add daytime to his impressive list of accomplishments."

Cannon, who has tons of hosting experience, ranging from his long-running comedy show Wild N' Out to popular talent competitions The Masked Singer and America's Got Talent, also opened up about the opportunity in a statement of his own.

"After leaving America's Got Talent, I wanted to focus on developing my own talk show," he said. "I've always dreamed of a platform where I can speak to America and discuss pop culture, as well as the topics on everyone's minds. When I had the opportunity to guest host at my good friend Wendy Williams' show this year, I experienced the energy and excitement of a daytime talk show and instantly knew I found my audience."

Cannon, who will also co-produce the talk show via his production company, Ncredible Entertainment, shared the news with Wendy's audience during Wednesday morning's episode of her show.

His show, which is reportedly set to debut in 2020, does not yet have a confirmed title.
