Prince Harry Releases Emotional Statement Declaring Legal Action Against Meghan Markle’s Bullies

The young royal is defending his wife against the British press.

The racism was blatant before, but since Meghan Markle officially became Duchess of Sussex, the British press has only doubled down on its unfair criticism of Britain’s first known Black royal. From her parenting style to her clothing, members of the media have unfairly ripped her apart — and Markle's husband Prince Harry has had enough.

Harry, the youngest adult member of the Windsor family, has announced his plans to take legal action against the press, and he’s not doing it to be petty: he’s concerned his wife will suffer a similar fate to his late mother, Princess Diana, who was notoriously hounded by the press until the moment of her tragic death.

In a lengthy statement published to sussexofficial.uk, on official palace letterhead, Prince Harry officially declared that he will be suing Associated Newspapers, the publishers of Daily Mail and Mail on Sunday, who have been the worst offenders in criticizing Markle.

He specified that he will be going after the publishers for the misuse of private information, infringement of copyright and breach of the Data Protection Act 2018.

In the statement, he details why he has chosen to go this route and accuses the British media of dehumanizing and commoditizing Markle in a way that is strikingly similar to his late mother who died in 1997 when her car crashed into a Paris tunnel while attempting to escape a swarm of press.

He stresses that he is taking legal action to protect her.

"Unfortunately, my wife has become one of the latest victims of a British tabloid press that wages campaigns against individuals with no thought to the consequences — a ruthless campaign that has escalated over the past year, throughout her pregnancy and while raising our newborn son," he wrote. "There is a human cost to this relentless propaganda, specifically when it is knowingly false and malicious, and though we have continued to put on a brave face — as so many of you can relate to — I cannot begin to describe how painful it has been."

Prince Harry added that his plan to take legal action is "a process that has been many months in the making." He further called out the same publications' latest positive coverage of his wife for perpetuating "the double standards of this specific press pack that has vilified her almost daily for the past nine months."

"They have been able to create lie after lie at her expense simply because she has not been visible while on maternity leave," he added. "There comes a point when the only thing to do is to stand up to this behavior, because it destroys people and destroys lives. Put simply, it is bullying, which scares and silences people... I lost my mother and now I watch my wife falling victim to the same powerful forces."

He ended his letter by thanking the public for standing by their side while the press took aim at his wife.

"We thank you, the public, for your continued support," he wrote. "It is hugely appreciated. Although it may not seem like it, we really need it."
