Back in 1997, Theodore Witcher made his feature film debut, creating a movie that has held a special place in Black culture since first hitting theaters. In the years that followed, many speculated if a sequel would ever come to fruition.
While a sequel has yet to become anything more than an optimistic rumor, a new stage adaptation has gotten the green light and will star none other than the legendary MC Lyte.
Witcher also handled writing the screenplay and will direct the musical, relieving fans that this beloved tale is going to be held in the best hands possible.
Sharing the news of her starring role on Instagram, the emcee invited fans to follow along for more details and VIP privileges on her official MC Lyte App.
Details on the film are still surfacing but as Lyte shared, she will be joined by the ever-talented Musiq Soulchild, Chrisette Michelle, Marsha Ambrosius, Dave Hollister and Raheem DeVaughn.
The musical is set to come alive on stages this fall.
