Well, now he’s (sort of) apologizing for his comments and says he was ignorant of what really went down. “Apologies for my misinformed post about Korryn Gaines my issue is the police's disregard for the safety of the child,” he tweeted. “That's the real issue.” He then doubled down in his next tweet defending what he had to previously say about the danger police put Gaines’s son in.
“Whether she was responsible or not, shooting at a woman holding a child is WRONG,” he explained. “Police have got to do better. This is going too far. #KorrynGaines.”
Korryn Gaines was shot and killed by police after an hours-long standoff with police. She reportedly pointed a legally-purchased Mossberg 12-gauge pistol grip shotgun at law enforcement and said, "If you don't leave, I'm going to kill you." She did this all while holding her young son Kodi. She did end up firing two rounds but was killed shortly afterward. Kodi Gaines was injured during the incident and was sent to the hospital.
Ne-Yo had originally placed all blame on the police officers in the exchange. “It's ANGER now. Who the F**K shoots a woman with her 5YEAR OLD SON IN HER ARMS!?! I can't y'all. I just can't......” He initially captioned in a post on Instagram next to a picture of Korryn Gaines. “If she was wrong she was wrong,” he later added in an edited section of the post. “I'm not even debating that. I'm talking about the use of deadly force. No matter who shot first or her regard for her kids or her mental health or WHATEVER. There are non-lethal ways this could've been handled. Instead a woman is dead and a child was shot.”
