JoJo knows a thing or two about fans getting antsy. Amid a highly-publicized lawsuit against her former label Blackground Records, the singer-songwriter had throngs of her followers anticipating her next project – and the wait took a decade. Though the hold-up was not her intention, JoJo can now relate to another singer-songwriter who has all eyes on Apple Music to stalk his sophomore studio album: Frank Ocean.
“I think that this time we live in now, with social media, makes it feel like everything should be instant, that we’re entitled,” she said in a recent sit-down with BET. “And I think that we – and I include myself as a consumer – need to chill.”
While she admits that she is not aware of any extenuating circumstances surrounding Frank Ocean’s overdue project, she notes the possibility as something to consider. From an artist’s perspective, the Boston-bred singer also makes it clear that Frank’s timeline might not identical to his label’s, or even to his fans’. The situation, albeit frustrating, requires two things in JoJo’s book: grace and patience.
Luckily for JoJo fans, her forthcoming third album Mad Love has officially been given a release date, and fans can conclude their 10-year wait on Oct. 14. Watch her discuss the wait for Frank Ocean’s upcoming album in the video above.
