Frank Ocean's 'Boys Don't Cry' Magazine Features a Poem Titled 'Boyfriend'

Could this give us more insight into his personal life?

Published August 22, 2016

Frank Ocean’s personal life became major news when he became one of the highest profile hip-hop/R&B artists to come out as gay.

Over time, it’s something that’s made him even more unique than he already is, and on his newly released album Blonde, he touches on it quite a lot. Perhaps the most detailed description of his intimate side came just a few days ago via a poem he released in coordination with the LP called “Boyfriend.”

Tucked away in the pages of his Boys Don’t Cry magazine is the poem. It describes either his current boyfriend or the standards he’s setting for someone who would want to be his partner.

Frank Ocean released Blonde Saturday evening (August 20) to much fanfare. So far, it’s gotten positive reviews and his Boys Don't Cry magazine features appearances from Kanye West, Tyler, The Creator and Lil B, among others. Kanye actually contributed his own poem alongside Ocean's about McDonald's. Apparently he's suspicious of french fries.

"Boyfriend," by Frank Ocean

my boyfriend drives a lil bucket
when it rain it fills up with rain
my boyfriend he gon pick me up
don't distract him at the wheel
in his lane
he's the only one

my boyfriend he misses me when i'm gone
so he don't forget me
there's a song he sings
calms his nerve, endings
my boyfriend is friendly
and we don't want no problems

i could say that i'm happy
they let me and my boyfriend become married
i could say that i'm happy
but cross my heart i didn't notice
hope to die no never, we voted
me and my boyfriend cast our ballot
every kiss reads like a poem
making wrongs right like a poem

i couldn't say i dream of you
because my dreams are filled with no one
and all is lost
me and my boyfriend we found
we don't hope for beyonds at all
me and my boyfriend spend time
and that's all i'm holding on
this time

we got permission
nothing's above condition
but this ain't a thang
it's a mission

can't join the band so sing along
me and my boyfriend got it going on
sleep with fans and t shirts on
asleep in vans your legs all strewn
across my lap
tan lines where your watch was strapped
you took off to make time

cut your hair
you left it long
i love to stare
there's nothing wrong
and if i die while i'm asleep
i pray to God my boyfriend
keeps my secret

"The McDonald's Man," by Kanye West

The McDonalds Man
Calabassas, California

McDonalds man
McDonalds man
The French fries had a plan
The French fries had a plan
The salad bad and the ketchup made a band
Cus the French fries had a plan
The French fries had a plan

McDonalds man
McDonalds man
I know them French fries had a plan
I know them French fries had a plan
The cheeseburger and the shakes formed a band
To overthrow the French fries plan
I always knew them French fries was evil man
Smelling all good and shit
I don’t trust no food that smells that good man
I don’t trust it
I just can’t

McDonalds man
McDonalds man
McDonalds, damn
Them French fries look good tho
I knew the diet Coke was jealous of the fries
I knew the McNuggets was jealous of the fries
I could see it through his artificial meat eyes
And he only be there some of the time
Everyone was jealous of them French fries
Expect for that one special guy
That smooth apple pie
