Snoop Dogg is a legend, of course. Arguably the most famous rapper of all time, the Doggfather was honored with the I Am Hip Hop Award at the 2016 BET Hip Hop Awards and had a message for the younger rappers in the game.

“To all the young rappers in the game, a lot of people don’t understand you,” he said to the crowd. “Y’all are misunderstood. I was misunderstood at the beginning. So you got to keep pushing, be original and diverse. Hip hop was created many years ago and it’s taken people so many places. You have to be who you are.”

Kendrick Lamar introduced Snoop and expressed his admiration for his mentor at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre. A video of numerous West Coast influencers including Dr. Dre and YG played before Snoop accepted his award.
