Jeezy Defends Lil Wayne, Says Black Lives Matter Comments Were 'Misunderstood'

Is he right?

Lil Wayne made some pretty eye-opening comments about Black Lives Matter via his interview with Nightline the other day. It had him backpedaling with a subsequent apology just days later.

Well, a lot of the hip-hop world weighed in on Weezy’s (pretty ignorant) comments. Jeezy was one of them. During an interview with Hot 97, the Snowman actually showed some leniency for his Southern rap colleague.

“People just might not understand,” he told show host Nessa. “I’m not definitely coming to his defense because he is an adult, he knows what he’s doing, but people have to understand that he’s been a superstar for so long — since he was a child. I grew up on him. He might not be connected on that level because it is difficult because he’s been rich for a long time. He’s been living on his own island for a long time and maybe it’s just something he don’t see.”

Jeezy then explained how he’s been able to see what Weezy doesn’t because he claims he hasn’t been as rich and has been more in-tune with the streets over time.

“I’m glad that I’m able to see it because I deal with people every day,” he continued. “I hate to say I pay for funerals all the time because people go out here and get in these situations and don’t have any life insurance and there’s nothing wrong because that’s what we do for our brother but I’m still connected because I’ve never been able to be that rich for that long.”

Does Jeezy have a point or is he just blindly defending his friend? Let us know in the comment section and check out the full Hot 97 interview below.
