Gucci Mane: 'I Wish I Had My Right to Vote'

The rapper is urging others not to let their vote go to waste.

Last night, Florida Memorial University played hosts to artists such as Gucci ManeRick Ross and T.I., each of whom used their moment in the spotlight to urge young voters to get out and vote (November 7).

Gucci Mane particularly shared a moving speech, detailing how he wishes he had his right to vote, shedding a light on the complicated reality that he, as a previously convicted felon, no longer may participate in the voting process.

"You have an opportunity to make a big impact tomorrow," Guwop addressed the room full of students. "And not just any young people — young people in this room, young people of color, young people that come from neighborhoods surrounding this college. We need to make a vote to stop all the police brutality. We need to make a vote to stop this mass incarceration."

The rapper then took a moment to reflect on the fact that he cannot personally vote due to his own criminal record, and how he feels that is an unjust part of the system.

"I wish that I had my right to vote," he stated. "I feel like after you serve your time, don't punish me for the rest of my life for something I already served my time for."

Hopefully Gucci Mane speaking on the subject will encourage young eligible voters not to let their votes go to waste or let their voices go silent.

T.I. also hopped on the mic to share an insightful and creative spoken word poem honoring those who lost their lives due to police brutality, while also urging young voters of color to unite and work towards a better future together.
