As the saying goes, if she can't recite the words to the theme song of Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, she's too young for you, bro.
While the iconic jingle has secured its legacy as one of the most popular theme songs of all time, its creators, DJ Jazzy Jeff and Will Smith, have recently let slip a little detail about its creation that may blow your mind.
According to DJ Jazzy Jeff, the melody took roughly fifteen minutes to create.
"We literally went into the studio and made the theme song in about 15 minutes," Jeff revealed during a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly. "One of the things Will used to always say is the hardest part to come up with for a song is the concept, but the concept behind the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air was already laid out. I ended up just going in and programming some music and he wrote something and laid it down."
When you think about how the song was created in the amount of time it takes to watch half an episode, it's definitely pretty wild. Perhaps one could even say it was simply destiny that the song was a breeze to write, especially considering the fact there was no real way to gauge just how impactful it'd end up being over time.
"I don’t think at the time anyone at the time would’ve guessed that it was going to have this kind of [legacy]," Jeff added. "Because when you decide to do anything, you never say, ‘Oh, and 30 years from now people are going to be rapping this at bar mitzvahs.’ You just don’t imagine that."
Ain't that the truth?!
