Kendrick Lamar's New Album Is Just the Beginning of TDE's Big Year

Top Dawg season!

Published April 3, 2017

Kendrick Lamar’s 2017 two-piece track release with “The Heart Part 4” and “HUMBLE” sent West Coast and Black Hippy fans wild for more heat from the Top Dawg Entertainment studios. And though K-Dot rang his album alarm for April 7, the label’s head honcho, Anthony “Punch” Tiffith, revealed some forthcoming plans that’s got us excitedly clearing playlist space for what’s up next.

Hold on to your aux cords, TDE fans — this is only the beginning.

After already pre-dubbing King Kendrick’s project for Album of the Year, Tiffith let fans in on TDE’s leading lady SZA’s highly awaited debut studio album, CNTRL. He also confirmed that the project is preparing for arrival right after K-Dot.

“Her album is amazing,” he responded to a fan who replied that she’s checking for SZA’s project versus a few listen previews from K-Dot’s for now.

Previously, the soul-driven vocalist had run into a small tiff with Tiffith after revealing in now-deleted tweets that she was quitting the industry scene, and if they wanted it, they’d need to nudge the Top Dawg boss about it. Now that they’ve apparently found some resolve with their differences, fans can keep their hopes high for her studio album opener.

Next up comes TDE’s cool kid, ScHoolboy Q, according to Tiffith’s reply to another fan who said that the “THat Part” rapper confirmed his album as finished. That leaves the silent rap killer Jay Rock, who, Punch added, would also be dropping off new music for 2017. Considering that the last we’ve heard of Jay was in 2015 with his ravingly reviewed 90059 album, he’s well overdue for new tunes.

Yup — the Top Dawgs are officially coming out to play this year.
