When R&B-soul’s treasured crooners Tyrese, Ginuwine and Tank joined vocals in 2007, what we had left of the ‘80s and ‘90s R&B scene was finally salvaged in the form of their TGT super group.
But after irreconcilable differences caused the group to hit a few rough patches, Tyrese’s Breakfast Club commentary has opened a fresh new can of beef that we all had hoped the men put behind them.
Sitting down beside Ludacris, Tyrese’s Fate of the Furious costar, the “Sweet Lady” singer was asked about the possibility of a TGT album coming to life.
“I mean listen, man, Ginuwine still wants an equal split,” Tyrese responded. Continuing to explain that he’ll always respect his TGT brothers as family, he explained that Ginuwine’s financial ambitions just didn’t make sense to him when it came to the numbers. But in normal Breakfast Club interview fashion, his comments landed in controversy, and Ginuwine fact-checked Tyrese’s claims on Instagram.
“Right now, I’m mad at my [brother],” he said in the caption. “I hate when sh** goes viral when [we’re] grown men. Hit me, but don’t make me look minuscule, kid. So stay tuned for a retort unless I get a call, people.”
He further explained that he was the one who actually agreed that Tyrese could have a larger share of the cut, despite his co-member’s statement. Following up on Ginuwine’s rebuttal, Tank called foul-play on Tyrese’s claims as well, reminding everyone that the group was intended to add to the culture, not a “d**k measuring contest.” Tank added that the real issues within the group stemmed from Tyrese’s inability to be a team player.
“TGT is no more because [Tyrese] feels he’s [better] than me and G!,” he said. “Doesn’t have more hits, hasn’t sold more records, but somehow he’s better… SMH.”
Tank had also sent Ginuwine a suggestion to let it all roll off of his shoulder, asking him not to respond to “this foolishness.” Now that both men have clearly gotten what they needed to off of their chests, without an address from Tyrese just yet, it unfortunately looks like there’s little hope left for the group if they’re not able to make amends after this one.
