While most of us were introduced to the Bronx’s freshest young femcee talent Cardi B via her viral Instagram videos, others found their way to her by way of her spot on Love & Hip Hop New York.
Whether it was a cellphone screen or a small screen that led the Bardi Gang to her isn’t important, though, because Cardi B has long been destined for greatness—and there’s a 7-year-old video to prove it.
According to Vibe, the video of young Cardi (real name Belcalis Almanzar) takes place at her high school talent show in 2010. And little Ms. Belcalis took the crowd at the Renaissance High School For Musical Theater and Technology by storm. Done up in a red, fitted jumpsuit ensemble, the “Bodak Yellow” artist stole the stage back then just as effortlessly as she does now at 24-years-old, assisted by a handful of backup dancers, synchronized choreography and the whole nine.
In the footage, the dancers hit a few moves before Cardi channels her inner Gaga as she crawls to the stage and energizes the crowd with a full rendition for The Fame Monster track. The performance is definitely worth all five minutes that it lasted, and an adorable reminder that the only significant change on the young starlet from the Bronx is her age. The bloody move-maker has, however, glowed up to gold status with her “Bodak Yellow” smash hit and a No. 3 spot on the Billboard Hot 100.
