Vince Staples Clarifies His Criticism of Eminem's BET Cypher Freestyle

"Pitchfork took it out of context because they thirsty," he tweeted.

Vince Staples is a jokester but it’s rare he’ll let the joke be on him.

  • Recently, he was criticized for his opinions on Eminem’s BET Hip-Hop Awards freestyle cypher. He called it “trash” and said the Detroit rapper “can do better,” per an interview with Pitchfork.

Well, after the backlash came, Vince took to Twitter and rattled off a series of tweets explaining himself, saying first-and-foremost that he was joking when he called Em’s freestyle trash.

“The mnm statement was all in good fun I like him & Kim. @Pitchfork took it out of context because they thirsty. Lemme get these jokes off,” he tweeted. “How we gonna clown Xtentacion for rapping like a sorcerer on XXL but let M go full assasins creed & then deny me the right to my jokes.”

Previously, the Long Beach, California native also went into detail as to why he didn’t think Em’s bars were as good as he expected them to be.

“If I said, ‘This is for Colin, ball up a fist / And keep it balled up, like Donald the bitch,’ he mused, “They would be like, ‘Get this n***a out of here.’” He also noted what he believed to be the out of place racial component to it.

“My favorite thing about the Eminem freestyle is the wall of dark-skinned black people behind him,” he also said on Friday (October 13). “That was great.”

Could there be a potential beef brewing between Vince and Eminem? According to Staples himself, “Cuz not worried about me.”
