Irv Gotti Is Ruffling Feathers With This Statement About Drake...

"He's a genius..."

Published November 6, 2017

Irv Gotti is shaking the table. The NYC native recently dropped in for the latest episode of "Drink Champs" and dropped some bolds statements about Drake and his impact on the new generation of rap. Irv’s glowing remarks went so far as to compare Drizzy to a hip-hop legend.

In the clip from the episode, which was published on Nov. 2, Irv kicks off by making predictions about Drake’s success if he had debuted at another time. “If Drake was in my era, Drake would be selling $15 million to $20 million a clip,” the rapper suggested. He also made predictions about his success in other business ventures. “So once he does something outside the music genre, he’s going to see how colossal he is,” he added.

Then things got real. After declaring Drake to be “colossal,” he also compared his rap career to Eminem’s. “That n***a is colossal. Listen, he’s a genius,” he said of Drake. “Drizzy for sure, is a genius. He’s, dare I say, our Eminem of today. He’s fucking Eminem.”

That is one hell of a statement, one that not everyone at the table could get behind. Drake could definitely make an argument for the most successful artist of this generation, with dozens of Billboard smashes and more than 80 awards under his belt. Even so, it’s hard to compare him to Eminem. The two artists don’t seem to be interested in the competition, however. In fact, Drake shared the stage with Em during his stop in Detroit on the Summer Sixteen Tour in April 2016. And in 2015, Eminem spoke to The New York Times about his appreciation for the Canadian, stating that “hip-hop needs Drake.”

It’s safe to say, hip-hop is big enough for both of these artists. Do you think Irv Gotti was making some sense? Check out the clip below, then catch Irv on BET’s Tales, every Tuesday at 9/8 C.
