R&B songstress Ciara jumped into the holy spirit on Sunday (January 21) with a message for all the ladies out there seeking a wedding ring, delivered courtesy of Pastor John Gray on her Instagram.
“#LevelUp,” she wrote in the caption of the pastor’s video, who humorously exclaimed his thoughts on what it takes to walk in the spirit of a wife versus that of a girlfriend. “Don’t settle.”
Unfortunately, the message didn’t go over so well with some of her fans, who accused her of self-righteousness while digging up her past love life before her marriage to Seattle Seahawks star quarterback Russell Wilson. Those who received the message as it was intended, however, are lining up in CiCi’s defense (including their stand against a suspected sub-shot from her ex-fiancé, Future) commencing 2018's second all-out internet war in only the first month of the year.
“level up”? these types of messages are so toxic to women. your value does not depend on a man wanting you and marriage is not the be all and end all. ciara is basic af for spreading this https://t.co/EQqTBDAIwa— sabrina (@sabrinaahmed) January 21, 2018
Ciara, honey, no. We rooted for you when you were going through your mess. I’m so disappointed that you would share something so silly. What pastor John Gray is saying here is intellectually lazy and a twisting of scripture. That’s not what Prov. 18:22 meant at all. https://t.co/IePlLJrVOL— CiCi Adams (@CiCiAdams_) January 21, 2018
Every so often, Ciara does something that reminds you to be grateful for the time Rihanna got her ass together on Twitter.— Michael Arceneaux (@youngsinick) January 21, 2018

Ciara has posted a video on her Instagram account, generalizing women's frustration with being single as evidence that they need to first get themselves worthy enough to be selected. 😐— KYLE A.B. (@kyalbr) January 21, 2018

Ciara. Sweetie. I’m so sorry but John Gray is wrong. John is literally giving license for men to treat women badly bc they aren’t “wife material”— George M Johnson (@IamGMJohnson) January 21, 2018
What happened to you was wrong, but it wasn’t bc of you having a “girlfriend” spirit and not one of a “wife” https://t.co/EdMNDr978w
