UPDATE (4/3/18, 5:15 p.m.): According to TMZ, two men by the names of Jonathan Ricketts and Shawn Harewood are suspected of robbing Brooklyn rapper Safaree and have been captured by New York and New Jersey police. Sources shared with the site that police pursued them from New Jersey into New York as they chased them over the George Washington Bridge. The men reportedly crashed their car and attempted to escape on foot before police finally caught up with them.
There's no information yet on how the police were tipped off to the whereabouts of the suspects, but law enforcement reportedly told TMZ that Safaree claimed to have been robbed out of roughly $183,000 in cash and jewelry.
Original story:
Brooklyn rapper Safaree unfortunately experienced a stormy start to his week on Monday (April 2) after arriving for his sit-down at The Angie Martinez Show only to reveal that just hours prior, he was robbed at gunpoint.
The “Hunnid” artist held back tears as Angie Martinez introduced him live on air for the interview—before she realized how emotional he was about the ordeal, that is.
“Um, I just got robbed at gunpoint,” he revealed. Safaree added that two men with two guns ran up on him and that they “came out of nowhere” when he got out of his car.
“Had me face down on the floor with a gun to my head,” he said while struggling through his words. “They just took everything.”
Apparently, this was the first time the Love & Hip Hop cast member had ever experienced such a horrific situation. Considering that he doesn’t walk around with any weapons himself, he was especially unnerved, despite stating that he does have armed security.
“I’ve never had a gun pointed to my face, and it’s like, I don’t know who the hell these people were, I don’t know where it’s coming from…” he continued.
It’s reasonable that he’d be so shaken up about the incident as well after his uncle was tragically murdered in August 2017, a loss that deeply affected the 36-year-old. He revealed to Angie that his uncle’s murder also occurred during a robbery where he was stabbed to death. Not to mention, he couldn’t fathom what his mother might go through had things turned out worse for him.
According to his recollection, he was laid out on the ground when the robbers jacked his stuff. When he knew the coast was clear, he got up and ran. However, he added, he couldn’t call the police because the perpetrators also took his phone along with the other belongings. As for who he believes is responsible for the holdup, he told Angie, it’s possible that it was an inside job.
“Everything is on the up and up for me, and people see that, and they’re just so jealous and envious,” he said. “It gotta be somebody who knows me and is close to me.”
Thankfully, Safaree said that the police are on top of everything now that he’s reported the mugging, and he’ll also be beefing up his security. But after taking his story to Angie’s show, live on air for the entire world to hear, some are jumping to his defense while others are shamelessly cracking jokes on the reported robbery.
Watch him explain the incident to Angie and what the internet had to say about Safaree’s sticky situation below (including video vixen Kat Stacks and another Power 105.1 host, Charlamagne Tha God).
My ex cocked his gun back and put it in my mouth then pistol whipped me on my head a couple of months ago but I didn’t shed 1 tear, but Safaree out here crying because he got robbed at gun point 🤦🏼♀️

That Safaree situation is not funny ...nobody knows how they would act in a life threatening situation until it happens. That "people get robbed everyday" shit is trash and shows how desensitized some people are, it's ok to be human.

If you have never been robbed at gun point before then there’s ABSOLUTELY NO REASON why y’all should be clowning Safaree.
