SMH: The Internet Is Hitting Cancel On Akon After His Comments About Bill Cosby...

He should probably read up on the news a little more often.

Somehow, TMZ thought it made sense to ask Senegalese-born singer-songwriter Akon about his thoughts on a “fair sentence” for scorned Hollywood legend Bill Cosby amid his recent conviction for the 2004 sexual assault of Andrea Constand.

A reporter from the notorious celebrity gossip site caught up with the “Locked Up” artist on Monday (May 7) to discuss the controversy, which he responded to with some questionable statements. He began by responding that he believes Cosby should be sentenced to “whatever the law requires,” and that his “life has been lived.” However, he thinks it shameful that he gave so much to the world only to have something like this “crash” his legacy. Akon admits that he doesn’t know all of the details and such that went into the 80-year-old’s legal case either, though.

“You don’t really know if he did, if he didn’t do it,” he said. “But, it’s a lot of people convicted that [are] innocent. In a situation like this, I don’t know. I’ve already been painted a picture of Bill Cosby—he’s a hero to me.”

Because Akon grew up looking up to Cosby, he finds it difficult to see him in such a negative light, he said. He adds that the allegations are from decades ago, making it even more difficult for him pick out what’s true and what’s not regarding the matter.

He concludes by declaring his faith in life adjustment, especially as a former convict who has dedicated his platform to philanthropic efforts, and principles like karma, which he says is inevitable for anyone who’s wronged someone else.

With all that to say, the internet is particularly focused on the former part of his statement, and they’re not welcoming the Konvicted singer’s choice of words not one bit.

Check out Akon's thoughts and what the internet had to say about his Cosby defense below.
